Vienna is not only one of the world’s most liveable cities, but also home to the Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien “WU” (Vienna University of Economics and Business). The 27th International Summer University (ISU) was a 3-week intensive programme held by WU on the new €492 million “WU Campus.”

I thoroughly enjoyed the Austrian practice of teaching because the instructors emphasised active learning and a more precise style of academic writing. The courses on Negotiation Management and International Human Resource Management focused on deepening my understanding of business topics and utilising my skills from my first year Economics studies.

The ISU assistants and the Programme Coordinator were incredibly welcoming as they organised various social activities in Vienna throughout the summer programme. I would like to share my highlights from the social aspect of ISU.

Furthermore, I was able to meet fellow students and make friends from countries ranging from Australia to Ukraine. The International Cultural Evening was one of the most anticipated events of the programme because students had to present their home country and a typical national dish. I also took day trips to explore Mödling and Bratislava, Slovakia.

My participation would not have been possible without the support from the Southampton Opportunity Scholarship and the exchange partnership between the University of Southampton and Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien. I would also like to thank the WU ISU team for their generous hospitality and assistance.

The different practices of teaching and the chance to meet new people from all over the world have been invaluable to my professional and personal development. I would relish the opportunity to study or work abroad in the future because my experience in Vienna has been above and beyond all expectations.

Tschüs ertsmal // Bye for now

Wonderful Wien – 27th International Summer University, WU
