Not so long ago, I was extremely lucky to have just returned from a week in Prague, Czech Republic, to take part in the programme known as the Prague Summer School. While there were many courses on offer, the Crime, Law and Psychology one was the one for me as an enthusiastic Psychology student with an interest in Forensics and psychology in the law, and it was such a fantastic experience.
The week included attending lectures, and, whilst sounding very boring and just like regular uni, they were so eye-opening to many career paths that sparked an interest in me. The talks included introductions to the current eye-witness interviewing techniques and proceedings, an in-depth insight into the psychology of rape victims and how the legal system affects them, and a look into forensic pathology and child abuse cases – and these were just to name a few of my favourites! The lecturers were passionate about their work, eager to deliver their knowledge, and very interactive which allowed us to speak with them about their careers.
Aside from the programme, having the opportunity to meet many like-minded individuals from all different countries and cultures was another invigorating highlight, and being able to spend my time in Prague exploring the city with these people was lovely. Organised trips included tours of Prague, an expedition to the nearby town of Kutna Hora, and a boat tour down the River Vltava to see the city in all its glory at night.
This has been an experience I will never forget for sure, and I highly recommend it to anyone else who is interested in the field and also to anyone who wants to explore a new city and culture! I would not hesitate to go back again.
