Lots has happened in the last month and a half here in Geneva.

For Bonfire Night I went to a British supermarket over the border in France. The heavy rain saved the Guy from the flames, but lots of people turned up anyway and there was still a party atmosphere with the food and fireworks (and lots of umbrellas).

The next week the snow came! It was followed immediately by rain so it only lasted in the city for a few hours, but the mountains are still snowy even today.

Then came my first birthday abroad along with my first visitor here in Geneva. Whilst there wasn’t any wild partying, it was still an enjoyable weekend. Since then I’ve had a further three visitors from back home, explored the Old Town of Geneva and been up the mountains another two times.

This weekend there were celebrations of l’Escalade in Geneva to commemorate the defeat of the French invasion in 1602. It culminated in a procession of people and horses, dressed in historical costumes, through the Old Town.

In terms of the work, it’s been getting a bit more difficult but also a lot more interesting. I’ve been doing lots of coding and getting some good results in the process. It’s hard to believe that I’m almost halfway through my time in Switzerland, but next week I’m off home for Christmas; I’m looking forward to the break and to seeing everyone again.
