Hello,
In all the midst of my studies I have realised that I haven’t posted my October/November posts so here is a backdated post from November.
Reading week has finally come upon me and like the good student I am, I have decided to take my head out of the books and go and do some exploring of Canada with a few friends and I can tell you it was probably one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had in my life. The contrasts in the cities we went to just highlighted how diverse and amazing Canada truly is!
Toronto:
- simply amazing in my eyes and my favourite place out of the three
- it was like a hybrid of New York, London and Jamaica in one place (all three are in my top 5 places in the world so you can imagine how i felt about that!)
- we stayed in the hipster area of Kensington market which was like a microcosm of the globe, you could walk to one shop and get an empanada and then walk four doors down and get “rasta pasta” (a transfusion of Italian and Jamaican food)
- we went to watch a Toronto raptors basketball game which was just full of colours and theatrics as North Americans know no better
- there was also travelling to the Yorkdale mall which was amazing as we got to walk in to the ova store so it felt like we had actually really met MR Drizzy drake himself
- but no doubt the pinnacle of toronto was going to niagara falls and seeing one of the natural wonders of the world. no amalgamation of words short or long could summarise how much of a humbling experience it truly was and will be a memory that stays with me forever!!
Montreal
- if Toronto was sleek, then montreal is awkwardly cool, its a city built on the concept of provocativeness
- different but equally as amazing, I would definitely call it the cultural hub of Canada- it has identity bursting from the seems
- There was always something to do here but it was always so confusing as everyone here was a french speaker
- arguably had the best food of the entire trip
- we also went to visit the 1970 olympic stadium (the first and only one built for a summer olympics in Canada)
- montreal had some really amazing buildings
Quebec city:
Equally as amazing as the first two mentioned however it was so cold we spent most of the time sitting inside and bonding which was the best way to finish a a long fun strenuous week. The best week so far!
bring on the rest of Canada!!!
