We’re here!
After nearly 24 hours of solid travelling, I made it to Canada!
It’s a little surreal to be out here to say the least. The campus itself is beautiful, much larger and green than any other campus I’ve seen so far. Other Canadian students have started moving in as well so it’s a lot livelier around the place, there were 5,000 students at the orientation event and that was just for first years and internationals!
What else? Nothing is in walking distance so buses are highly recommended, the nearest Walmart is a 45 minute walk away! Alcohol is also surprisingly hard to find as they don’t sell it in most generic stores, you have to find specialized beer/liquor stores to get anything! It’s also very surreal seeing British as a part of the international section (also tea bags are crazy expensive, come on Walmart step your game up man needs his tea).
My housemates are also lovely! I’ve only met two so far, from France and Singapore, but we’re getting on very well! They think British people are a little odd, but I can’t tell if it’s due to the culture or just me personally…either way, all is well!
I’ve met a bunch of other European people so far as well. Our residence is specialized for either international or upper students so very few first years are living here. A surprising number are from the UK as well and we’ve been getting along quite nicely! There are apparently 62 different nationalities in this year group, most of them living over here! It’s amazing seeing all different cultures bunched together!
I’ve have more updates soon on life, classes start on Thursday and I’ve got some fun things planned soon! For now, here’s a picture of Canada’s River Thames…I am living in London after all!
Until next time,
Joycey
